2016 APC Innovation Summit Recap:

On June 21 – 23, 2016 more than 100 attendees gathered at the Otesaga Hotel in Cooperstown, NY to participate in the APC Innovation Summit. This year’s event was a wonderful success and provided an opportunity for faculty, staff, administrators and education partners to share best practices as well as learn from experts about how to address the challenges we face in higher education.

The program featured several key note sessions highlighting new and emerging trends in higher education:

  • Dr. Joe Pace; The Mental Technology of Peak Performance Education and Conversation with Dr. Joe Pace from The Pacific Institute Education Initiative
  • Susan Sportsman, Effective Leadership Through Encouragement, Engagement and Accountability

  • Dr. Henry Johnson; Creating a Positive Work Environment

The Innovation Summit also featured several breakout sessions with two tracks addressing particular issues for administrative staff or faculty and programming staff. This provided a great opportunity to hear from the experts at APC member colleges sharing the best practices used at their schools.

A special highlight of the program was the welcome reception and dinner held on Tuesday, June 21st. NYS Commissioner of Education, MaryEllen Elia spoke to the APC membership on the importance and recognition of the good work and strong outcomes of New York’s proprietary sector. As well, APC took the opportunity to recognize and pay tribute to two important gentlemen for their dedication and commitment to the sector. Robert Stone; longtime general counsel to the Association and a true champion for our members and President Stephen Jerome, who stepped down from his role as president of the Association after over 25 years of service.
